For my first column I would like to give you an idea of how I feel about baseball, and
what types of articles you can expect to read here. I'm going to be writing about
all things in baseball that catch my attention. Most of my columns will tend to be
about things that piss me off. It seems like their are more of those in baseball
nowadays.
Now a little bit about my favorite team. I started watching baseball in 1989.
At the time Oakland was one of the most exciting teams in the league, with players
like Henderson, McGwire, Canseco, Bob Welch, Dave Stewart, and The Eck. So I admit I
jumped on the bandwagon when they where playing well, but I stayed with them through the
down years too. Now, after the acquisition of Ted Lilly, Oakland is poised to make a
run at their third consecutive post-season birth, and they are once again one of the most
exciting teams in the league. Oakland is the epitome of all that is good and all
that is bad in the league. As much fun as this team is now A's fans hold their
breaths hoping and praying that this team can stay together long enough to win a World
Series. How long before Tejada goes? Chavez? Zito? And the rest of the team.
Without some sort of restrictions on spending by large market teams, or a more
level playing field through increased revenue sharing then the game will never be even.
There will always be the haves and the have-nots. That being said Oakland has
everything in place to win the division. It won't be easy, but their pitching is
heads and shoulders above both Anaheim and Seattle. Oakland fans
